all the light that remains (2025)

Directed by Moona Pennanen

Production: Ida Karoskoski/Illume Oy (Finland)

Hybrid Documentary (25 mins)

All the Light That Remains is a hybrid documentary exploring how past and present conflicts continue to shape the landscape and lives of those in an old Finnish mining village. When Ukrainian seasonal workers Oleksandr and Mykyta arrive to plant trees, they find themselves in a place where history is stirring. A new mining project is underway—molybdenum, once used in wartime, is in demand again for the arms industry. As they work, the men uncover a buried history that echoes their own, revealing how the traces of war stretch across generations and borders.

Some plant and nurture; others mine and reshape—history repeats itself in new forms.
