edge of night (2025)
Directed by Vladimir Loginov
Production: Janika Möls/Anthill Films (Estonia)
Feature Documentary (90 mins)
"Edge of the Night" is a poetic nocturne to Tallinn, a city where time bends under the weight of endless days and impenetrable nights. In winter, darkness falls as early as 3 PM; in summer, the sun refuses to rest. Between these extremes lies a world unseen by most—a city that breathes, dreams, and pulses with life when the rest of us sleep.
Directed by Vladimir Loginov, this documentary takes us on an intimate journey through the shadowed corners of Tallinn’s nights. From the raw cries of new life in a maternity house to the quiet solitude of someone sleeping on a park bench; from the last tram groaning into the depot to the chaotic hum of an emergency call center. Firefighters on alert. Swingers in secret clubs. An airport dispatcher guiding invisible planes. A blind musician playing to a city that cannot see her back. Even animals in the zoo, caught somewhere between slumber and wakefulness.
"Edge of the Night" connects these threads into a tapestry of moments—dark but vibrant, still but alive. It’s a love letter to the city of Loginov’s birth, an ode to the sleepless hours, and an invitation to see Tallinn as you’ve never seen it before: not asleep, but dreaming.
