DAYS OF WONder (2025)

Directed by Karin Pennanen

Production: Sonja Lindén/Avonton (Finland)

As a child, Karin Pennanen lived below her uncle Markku’s apartment. A visual artist, musician, and composer, he was a multi-talented guardian of dreams who largely vanished from her life after moving to another city. Years later, while she studied film, they reconnected, and she considered making a film about him. But the project kept being delayed and only became possible after his death.
In Days of Wonder, the filmmaker explores Markku’s never-exhibited drawings, notes, compositions, and audio-visual recordings—materials that unveil the many sides of her gifted, solitary, and perceptive uncle. Drawing heavily on archival material, the film revisits his world through a compelling artistic exchange between niece and uncle, offering a surprising and deeply moving posthumous tribute.
