Directed by August Joensalo, based on a play by Aarni Pieski
Production: Emilia Haukka, Jussi Rantamäki/Aamu Film Company (Finland)
Short Fiction (15 mins)
When Caenis sees Caeneus on a punk stage, they know they want his body. Desire, envy and pain intertwine as Caenis obsessively hunts for Caeneus – and their true self.
Caeneus is an allegorical film about envy towards the opposite sex, based on Aarni Pieski’s original play Metsästys. The protagonist Caenis’ envy is masqueraded as lust in their animalistic hunt of Caeneus. The film depicts a greedy fantasy where bodily desire transforms from an undefined longing into reality: Caenis stealing Caeneus' body and life. Blending punk music and sensory physicality, the film wants to enter the body of the viewer.
