to this I belong (2026)

Feature Documentary (66 mins)

To This I Belong is a feature documentary following the creation of an ambitious, island-wide dance project in which four choreographers - one in each province of Ireland - are commissioned by Luail, Ireland’s new national and all-island dance company - to make site-specific works rooted in land, memory, and belonging.  Through movement, music, and place, the film becomes a portrait of an island in flux.

In Munster, Nigerian-Irish hip-hop dancer Tobi Omoteso gathers people from across Limerick city through street dance, forging moments of joy and solidarity against the backdrop of a rising wave of far-right, anti-immigrant protest.

In Leinster, Lucia Kickham forms a new community of dancers in Enniscorthy, navigating artistic isolation after leaving Dublin and questioning what it means to sustain a creative practice away from established cultural centre

In Connacht, Edwina Guckian draws on local folklore, collecting endangered oral histories of fairies and spirits, and translating these ancient forms of storytelling into movement.

In Ulster, Fermanagh-based artist Dylan Quinn creates shared public spaces through dance, confronting the lingering divisions of Northern Ireland nearly three decades after the Good Friday Agreement.

Through striking set-pieces and capturing the intimate process behind each of the four creations, To This I Belong reflects on immigration, identity and community - asking how a country tells its story through the bodies that move across its land.
